The Gaydon Model Truck Festival is Europe's premier event totally dedicated to trucks. Held over two days in June each year at the British Motor Museum at gaydon, Warwickshire since 1991, it brings together truck modellers from all over the UK, Europe and even further afield, where models can be displayed, ideas and techniques can be shared.
The show features competitions within various classes with trophies sponsored by both companies and individuals and a Best in Show trophy which is hotly contested every year.
The show is by no means elitist, and anyone irrespective of skill level or experience is welcome to enter. However, applications for table space must be made to the Show Organiser as space is limited due to the popularity of the event. There is no charge for displaying but a small fee is payable to enter the competitions. These fees help cover the costs of setting up the show which does not make a profit.
Most exhibits are 1:24 scale replicas but there are classes for smaller and odd scales as well as radio controlled truck models.
The Gaydon show runs in tandem with the Classic Commercial Vehicle Show which is held in the grounds of the Museum and attracts several hundred classic lorries; a great opportunity to do some research and take pictures for future modelling projects. There are trade stands and the Museum itself is well worth a visit for anyone interested in classic cars. Both the model show and the lorry show are open to the public.
